Membership Renewals in 2022

Firstly, thanks for being part of the club. We’ve had a pretty rocky time in 2020 and 2021, and we’re hoping that 2022 will be much better for our members, our regular users, and our club as a whole.

After looking at the books, it’s clear we need to make some small changes to how we renew our membership this year. The Committee met in November and again in December, and approved these changes. Most members will be unaffected, but for the sake of transparency, we’re writing to everybody and setting out the changes:

Regular Club Members

There will be no change to your annual renewal. It remains at £15. Please come into the club between Jan 3rd and Jan 31st, and renew as usual.

Life Members (no fee)

For the small number of members granted life membership, the Committee has set dues of £5 per year.

We need to balance the books, and asking you for this is one way we can ensure the club thrives now and in the future.

Part-fee Members

Some members have a part-fee arrangement for historical or practical reasons. Whatever your previous arrangement, our club’s part-fee rate has been set at a £10 renewal.

Topping up your card

When you come in to renew, you will also be asked to put £10 on your membership card to spend behind the bar. This is money held on the tills for you to spend on your card. It is not refundable.

We are bringing this policy in because it immediately gives us a cash injection to keep the club in funds, and we understand that it will easily be spent through the course of the year, so you’ll be able to use the money on account whenever it suits you.

If for any reason you don’t spend that initial £10 during 2022, any residue will evert to club funds at the end of the year. Any other balance will be unaffected, and once you’ve spent that £10 it’s business as usual.

Renew in January

Please make sure you have renewed your membership by the evening of January 31st, 2022. Memberships not renewed by this date will lapse, and you will be charged full fees to rejoin. Respecting this deadline keeps the club’s finances in good order and makes sure everybody knows where they stand.

It’s your club

We know that some members are historically supportive of the club, but no longer attend regularly for a number of reasons, and we’re grateful for the ongoing good faith in our club and our community.

However, there are other members we haven’t seen in a while, and we want you to know that you’re very welcome here. The lounge and bar are comfortable, and beer is good and the company is decent too. A recent new member remarked how easily you can settle in for a quiet drink.

The Concert room hosts weekly martial arts classes, baby sessions, tea dances, disco nights and all sorts of other events, generating a steady income for club funds and providing dozens of people with a place to meet and socialize every week. Please speak to any of the committee about hiring the Concert room if you’re looking for a venue.

In Summary

Renewals have changed slightly, you need to put £10 on your card as well when you do, and the deadline is January 31st. We’re open every evening except Sunday, and also weekend lunchtimes for the football and/or the racing. Please get your renewal in early so we can keep the club in good shape financially, and come down to join us for a pint or a glass of whatever takes your fancy. It’s your club and we’d love to see you here.

Yours Faithfully,

Aldridge Social Club Committee

Dennis Barker. It is with great sadness that we now inform all of our Committee and members of our club of the passing of one of our committee and active member for over 20 years. Dennis Barker, a well liked and respected member and former chairman of the club has passed away during the night. Dennis had organized in house crib, in house domino knock out competitions and our football tote, and truly loved the club. Dennis was in the club on most days and was a popular, dedicated and respected person. The club will greatly miss his help and support and input on the finance committee. RIP Dennis. We will always remember you.
